Bobie Jones

My name is Bobie and I am a mother to three boys. I have dedicated most of my career to education, starting as a Cover Supervisor in my late teens/early twenties. I then taught unqualified in the same secondary school for five years, specialising in teaching Ethics and Philosophy up to GCSE level. In addition to teaching, I also worked as a Family Liaison Officer, providing support to families with children who had behavioural needs, school refusal, high emotional needs, and those at high risk of permanent exclusion. This role allowed me to develop skills in working closely with schools and families to ensure that every child received the support they needed.

To further my understanding of child psychology and how the brain works, I pursued a degree in Sport and Psychology and qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I wanted to gain the knowledge necessary to understand the unique needs of each child I worked with and provide them with the best possible support. As a result, I developed mindset workshops that help children identify their barriers and learn the skills and strategies to overcome them and manage their mental health in a positive way.

More recently, I worked as a SENCO Assistant in a primary school, where I provided pastoral support to children and parents and implemented interventions for children with special educational needs (SEN). During this time, I obtained qualifications as a Speech and Language Practitioner and Team Teach instructor.

I am incredibly passionate about helping people, especially children, and making a difference in their lives. It is crucial for children to learn how to identify their needs and develop positive strategies to manage and overcome challenges. I have personally experienced the challenges of navigating the system to get the support my own children need. My eldest, who is now 9 years old, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Dyspraxia last year after a lengthy process. He struggles with sensory issues and hyper-vigilance. My middle son, who is 7 years old, is also facing similar difficulties with working memory, hyper-vigilance, and emotional outbursts. We have been through a tough journey with him, including anxiety and school refusal. We are currently in the process of obtaining an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and a diagnosis of ADHD for him.

Having experienced the challenges and frustrations of obtaining support and diagnoses for my own children, I understand how difficult this process can be. With the launch of our SEN support, our main goal is to support and advocate for parents and their children, providing them with the necessary guidance and support during this challenging journey. We aim to create an inclusive and supportive community for all parents and families of children with special educational needs.

Lana Knapp

My name is Lana and I am a mother of two boys aged 14 and 18. As a parent, I have faced my own challenges and have experienced frustrations with the lack of support for families in difficult times. This experience ignited my passion for helping other children and families so they never have to feel alone.

For the past 12 years, I have been fortunate to have a job that I truly love. I have worked in special education settings and most recently in a therapeutic children's residential facility. Currently, I am part of the well-being team at a mainstream school, where I provide pastoral support to help children with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.

My main focus has been on working with neurodiverse children in various settings, aiming to help them thrive and find happiness. I also place a strong emphasis on supporting their families to ensure a smooth transition into their everyday lives.

In my role at the residential home, I acted as a professional parent for the children and young people, advocating on their behalf with various professionals. I worked with children who had complex needs due to their childhood experiences and neurodiversity, which presented unique challenges for them. I assisted in their transition to new homes as they reached adulthood, helping them reconnect with their families. It was incredibly rewarding to see the positive outcomes that the young people achieved.

I am thrilled to offer support to families and their children facing challenges with mental health and special educational needs (SEN). Our goal is to provide them with the necessary tools to self-manage, self-regulate, and conquer their difficulties. With our expertise and services at Thriveology, we strive to create an inclusive, nurturing, and supportive environment for every family and child. This environment fosters a sense of belonging and confidence, empowering them to succeed and thrive!

Kelly Drewitt

Hello, I am Kelly, a Mother and advocate for my two wonderful neurodivergent children aged 5 and 9. I previously worked as a qualified accountant, but I had to step away from my career because mainstream environments were not accessible for my son. The needed adaptations were not implemented, leading me to become his full-time carer.

Being a SEN parent has taught me so much and created a huge passion within me to learn more about neurodiversity and help others living with similar experiences.

I enjoy building new, genuine connections with people and love learning new information. I feel privileged to be part of such an incredible community of parents doing everything they can to support their children's needs, putting all their energy into fighting a broken system and strive to be a part of making it better, safer and more accessible for all.

I believe these parents should have easier access to support and information as I know the feeling of isolation all too well and want to do all that I can to prevent as many parents as possible from feeling alone, lost and unsupported.

Georgee Moody

I'm a passionate educator and proud mum of three amazing children. My journey into education has been shaped by both personal and professional experiences, all rooted in a deep belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive — not just academically, but in every aspect of life.

My career began to take shape when I had the life-changing opportunity to teach in a small village school in Moldova. It was an eye-opening experience that taught me a lot about adaptability, empathy, and meeting the diverse needs of children — lessons I carry with me every day in the classroom. I then went on to complete a degree in the Psychology of Sport and Exercise, which included in-depth study across modules such as Developmental Psychology, Interpersonal Skills, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology. These have deeply influenced my approach to education, instilling in me the belief that every child should be empowered to thrive in all areas of life, not solely in the classroom.

Following the completion of my undergraduate degree, I completed a PGCE in Primary Education with a PE specialism. Since then, in my role as a Teacher, I've had the pleasure of working with children of all ages and abilities, including those with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, in all sorts of different settings.

I will always grab any opportunity to continue learning with both hands and I am committed to ongoing professional development. In more recent years, I've completed additional training in areas such as Autism Education, Psychological First Aid for Children and Young People, Childhood Adversity, and Inclusive Education — all of which have helped me to better understand and support the children I work with.

I am driven to promote high aspirations for all pupils, and I am firm and passionate in my beliefs that each and every pupil has a right to an education that is inclusive and a learning environment in which they feel safe. I strive to ensure that any pupil I work with feels valued and respected, giving them the confidence and self-belief to build the skills that they need to reach their full potential both now and for their future, regardless of their gender, religion, ethnicity, culture or disability.

Emily Bradshaw

Hi, I’m Emily, I am a Mum to two children aged 7 and 4 and qualified teacher, with particular experience in Early Years. I am really excited to join the Thriveology team as an Alternative Provision Teacher because I am extremely passionate about inclusion for all children within education.
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher. Alongside my degree in Sociology (with modules in Education and Inclusivity) at the University of Surrey, I worked for the childcare agency Kiddicare as bank staff in day nurseries and after school clubs. This helped concrete my love of working with children and in particular interest in pastoral care.
After this I trained to become a Primary School Teacher at Reading University through the Schools Direct Program allowing me to train in various schools and gain hands on experience whilst studying. In 2015 I qualified as a class teacher and worked in an Infant School in Bracknell. During this time I gained experience in working with children with special needs (SEN) children with English as additional language (EAL) and children with social, emotional and behavioural needs (SEMH).
I have seen firsthand how the teacher to pupil ratios, mainstream classroom setting and pace of the curriculum doesn’t always meet every child’s needs, having a negative impact on their mental health, wellbeing and learning potential. This “one size doesn’t fit all” notion is something I have at the heart of my teaching, allowing me to continuously adapt my teaching approach, planning and assessment methods in order to cater for the individual needs of the children I work with.

Qualifications and Training:

  • BSc Hons Sociology
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • Trained in Safeguarding
  • Positive Behaviour management
  • Team Teach Level Two
  • Basic Paediatric First Aid

Charlotte Martyn

My name is Charlotte Martyn, a devoted mother to three boys and a girl, all of whom have transitioned into adulthood. My journey as a parent took an unexpected turn when my youngest son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 8. From his earliest days, I noticed nuances in his behaviour that set him apart from his siblings.

Navigating the challenges of raising a neurodiverse child has been a profound and often arduous journey, one that I suspect many can empathise with. My professional trajectory has been deeply intertwined with my personal experiences, as I've dedicated my career to understanding children and supporting their parents.

Commencing my journey in childcare within a nursery setting, I completed comprehensive training in early childhood development through the "Birth to 5 Matters" program. Subsequently, I transitioned into primary education, engaging in roles ranging from breakfast and after-school club supervision to learning support assistance. My tenure in various school environments provided invaluable insights into tailored teaching methodologies, particularly within one-on-one and small group settings.

My pursuit of knowledge led me to specialise in supporting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) during my tenure as a residential childcare officer at a specialised institution. Here, I honed skills in positive behaviour management and crisis intervention, complemented by certifications in Team-Teach and peadiatric first aid.

Transitioning to a specialist primary school, I pioneered the establishment of their inaugural nurture group, fostering a nurturing environment for children facing social and emotional challenges. My commitment to enhancing my professional capabilities led me to attain certifications as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), and Dynamic Learning Support Assistant (DLSA).

Driven by a passion for children's mental health and personalised learning, I currently serve as an unqualified teacher and ELSA, advocating for individualised approaches to education. Recognising the uniqueness of each child's learning journey, I am currently pursuing a degree in child development to further enrich my understanding of the next generation.

My overarching goal remains steadfast: to empower parents facing challenges and to provide marginalised children with the support needed to thrive as contributing members of society. My personal struggles with navigating the educational system for my son underscore the systemic barriers encountered by neurodiverse individuals, fueling my resolve to effect positive change.

I take great solace in witnessing my son's journey from adversity to achievement, culminating in his successful completion of secondary education and enrolment in university. His story serves as a testament to the transformative power of tailored support and unwavering advocacy.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I find solace in nature's embrace, particularly through activities such as paddle-boarding and swimming. My passion for the sea serves as a counterbalance to the rigors of my work, rejuvenating my spirit and fostering a sense of balance amidst life's complexities.

In conclusion, my multifaceted experiences as a parent, educator, and advocate underscore my unwavering commitment to championing the holistic well-being and academic success of every child.
