My name is Bobie and I am a mother to three boys. I have dedicated most of my career to education, starting as a Cover Supervisor in my late teens/early twenties. I then taught unqualified in the same secondary school for five years, specialising in teaching Ethics and Philosophy up to GCSE level. In addition to teaching, I also worked as a Family Liaison Officer, providing support to families with children who had behavioural needs, school refusal, high emotional needs, and those at high risk of permanent exclusion. This role allowed me to develop skills in working closely with schools and families to ensure that every child received the support they needed.
To further my understanding of child psychology and how the brain works, I pursued a degree in Sport and Psychology and qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I wanted to gain the knowledge necessary to understand the unique needs of each child I worked with and provide them with the best possible support. As a result, I developed mindset workshops that help children identify their barriers and learn the skills and strategies to overcome them and manage their mental health in a positive way.
More recently, I worked as a SENCO Assistant in a primary school, where I provided pastoral support to children and parents and implemented interventions for children with special educational needs (SEN). During this time, I obtained qualifications as a Speech and Language Practitioner and Team Teach instructor.
I am incredibly passionate about helping people, especially children, and making a difference in their lives. It is crucial for children to learn how to identify their needs and develop positive strategies to manage and overcome challenges. I have personally experienced the challenges of navigating the system to get the support my own children need. My eldest, who is now 9 years old, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Dyspraxia last year after a lengthy process. He struggles with sensory issues and hyper-vigilance. My middle son, who is 7 years old, is also facing similar difficulties with working memory, hyper-vigilance, and emotional outbursts. We have been through a tough journey with him, including anxiety and school refusal. We are currently in the process of obtaining an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and a diagnosis of ADHD for him.
Having experienced the challenges and frustrations of obtaining support and diagnoses for my own children, I understand how difficult this process can be. With the launch of our SEN support, our main goal is to support and advocate for parents and their children, providing them with the necessary guidance and support during this challenging journey. We aim to create an inclusive and supportive community for all parents and families of children with special educational needs.
Qualifications and Training;
My name is Charlotte Martyn, a devoted mother to three boys and a girl, all of whom have transitioned into adulthood. My journey as a parent took an unexpected turn when my youngest son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 8. From his earliest days, I noticed nuances in his behaviour that set him apart from his siblings.
Navigating the challenges of raising a neurodiverse child has been a profound and often arduous journey, one that I suspect many can empathise with. My professional trajectory has been deeply intertwined with my personal experiences, as I've dedicated my career to understanding children and supporting their parents.
Commencing my journey in childcare within a nursery setting, I completed comprehensive training in early childhood development through the "Birth to 5 Matters" program. Subsequently, I transitioned into primary education, engaging in roles ranging from breakfast and after-school club supervision to learning support assistance. My tenure in various school environments provided invaluable insights into tailored teaching methodologies, particularly within one-on-one and small group settings.
My pursuit of knowledge led me to specialise in supporting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) during my tenure as a residential childcare officer at a specialised institution. Here, I honed skills in positive behaviour management and crisis intervention, complemented by certifications in Team-Teach and peadiatric first aid.
Transitioning to a specialist primary school, I pioneered the establishment of their inaugural nurture group, fostering a nurturing environment for children facing social and emotional challenges. My commitment to enhancing my professional capabilities led me to attain certifications as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), and Dynamic Learning Support Assistant (DLSA).
Driven by a passion for children's mental health and personalised learning, I currently serve as an unqualified teacher and ELSA, advocating for individualised approaches to education. Recognising the uniqueness of each child's learning journey, I am currently pursuing a degree in child development to further enrich my understanding of the next generation.
My overarching goal remains steadfast: to empower parents facing challenges and to provide marginalised children with the support needed to thrive as contributing members of society. My personal struggles with navigating the educational system for my son underscore the systemic barriers encountered by neurodiverse individuals, fueling my resolve to effect positive change.
I take great solace in witnessing my son's journey from adversity to achievement, culminating in his successful completion of secondary education and enrolment in university. His story serves as a testament to the transformative power of tailored support and unwavering advocacy.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I find solace in nature's embrace, particularly through activities such as paddle-boarding and swimming. My passion for the sea serves as a counterbalance to the rigors of my work, rejuvenating my spirit and fostering a sense of balance amidst life's complexities.
In conclusion, my multifaceted experiences as a parent, educator, and advocate underscore my unwavering commitment to championing the holistic well-being and academic success of every child.
Qualifications and Training:
My name is Lana and I am a mother of two boys aged 14 and 18. As a parent, I have faced my own challenges and have experienced frustrations with the lack of support for families in difficult times. This experience ignited my passion for helping other children and families so they never have to feel alone.
For the past 12 years, I have been fortunate to have a job that I truly love. I have worked in special education settings and most recently in a therapeutic children's residential facility. Currently, I am part of the well-being team at a mainstream school, where I provide pastoral support to help children with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.
My main focus has been on working with neurodiverse children in various settings, aiming to help them thrive and find happiness. I also place a strong emphasis on supporting their families to ensure a smooth transition into their everyday lives.
In my role at the residential home, I acted as a professional parent for the children and young people, advocating on their behalf with various professionals. I worked with children who had complex needs due to their childhood experiences and neurodiversity, which presented unique challenges for them. I assisted in their transition to new homes as they reached adulthood, helping them reconnect with their families. It was incredibly rewarding to see the positive outcomes that the young people achieved.
I am thrilled to offer support to families and thier children facing challenges with mental health and special educational needs (SEN). Our goal is to provide them with the necessary tools to self-manage, self-regulate, and conquer their difficulties. With our expertise and services at Thriveology, we strive to create an inclusive, nurturing, and supportive environment for every family and child. This environment fosters a sense of belonging and confidence, empowering them to succeed and thrive!
